About the Program
Dairy Australia’s Grains2Milk program is helping Australian dairy farmers:
- Take greater control of their purchasing of feed grains / concentrates, and
- Improve their use of feed grains / concentrates on farm to produce milk, within their chosen feeding system
through a number of research, development and extension projects.
While progressing these important projects, Grains2Milk program has also been responding to dairy farmers’ more immediate needs, supporting their decision making as they cope with drought conditions, through feed.FIBRE.future.
Heat stress is something that Australian dairy farmers in the Murray-Darling Basin and elsewhere must deal with effectively, as it has substantial impacts on milk production, fertility, milk quality, cow health and welfare.
With funding support from the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and from Dairy Australia, Grains2Milk has pulled together current knowledge on managing in the heat under Australian conditions and developed this Cool Cows website and the Cool Cows booklet.
These new resources provide dairy farmers with an integrated, whole-of-year approach which helps ensure they make the best use of what they already have, and can add to their ability to keep cows cool from year to year.
