Managing in the heat

Cool season preparation

Check shade: could you provide more?

Shade can reduce radiant heat load by 50% or more, so it is no wonder that cattle actively seek it out during hot weather. Shade from trees, portable structures or buildings does not require electricity or water to run, making it a good investment.

The aim is to protect cows from direct sunlight (solar radiation), particularly during the hottest part of the day. Remember, cows eat more when they are cool and in the shade.

Review current arrangements. What could you change?
